Boambee and Newports Creek
Studies and Plan
A flood study for the Boambee and Newports Creek catchments was completed in 2011 to identify flood behaviour and the likelihood of flooding across the catchments.
A Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan for Boambee Newports Creek was undertaken and adopted by Council on 9 June 2016.
It presents floodplain management measures incorporating both structural and non-structural measures to manage flood risk in the Boambee and Newports Creek floodplains.
Current Works and Projects
North Boambee Valley
The City has investigated the feasibility and design of the flood detention basin in the North Boambee Valley as recommended in the 2016 Floodplain Risk Management Plan.
The detention basin will significantly reduce peak flood flows within Newports Creek, reducing flood risk and damages to downstream flood prone properties and major infrastructure, and reducing the risk of loss of life.
In particular, the basin will reduce flood risk at the Coffs Harbour Health Campus and the existing Pacific Highway, ensuring improved access to the Hospital during large flood events.
We have received grant funding through the NSW floodplain management program to construct the basin.
