Staying healthy after floods and storms
Following flooding and severe storms, communities are often left with contaminated water supplies, non-functioning septic tanks, mould, spoiled food, vectors and pests, and temporary shelters and housing. Local mental health support
Floods can affect us all in different ways and can be stressful simply as they add to the list of events we have been through as individuals and as a community. Please don’t minimise your experience. Your issues are valid. It’s always a good idea to connect to someone. Even if you don’t use the service immediately you will be prepared for when you or someone you know might need it.
Mid North Coast Local Health District
This is FREE service for people affected by natural disasters.
- You do not have to be affected by financial loss to access support.
- Will support your mental health well-being, and your journey to recovery.
- Walk with you, and your family or friends, through the recovery journey.
- Help you to understand how the disaster may be affecting your mental health wellbeing.
- Link you with others who may also assist with your recovery.
- Support your GP in providing the best mental health care we can.
- Maintain confidentiality and provide support with dignity and respect.

Rural Adversity Mental Health Program
The Rural Adversity Mental Health Program (RAMHP) has 20 Coordinators based across regional, rural and remote NSW who inform, educate and connect individuals, communities and workplaces with appropriate services and programs. RAMHP links people to local mental health services and resources about mental health and wellbeing and provides assistance in times of natural disasters and severe adversity.
