Bacon bliss, treasure hunt and reveal of local legends

The long sizzling summer at Coffs Harbour is primed to rock on with an Australia Day community party at the revamped Brelsford Park in the City Centre.
The full program of events on Sunday 26 January is to be finalised and announced but will kick-off with a free barbecue breakfast for all-comers from 8 to 11 o’clock.
“There will be bacon and egg rolls and sausage sangers on the house – cooked for you by the Coffs Harbour Lions Club,” Mayor Nikki Williams said.
“There will also be a swag of activities for kids and the young-at-heart, so keep an eye on the City’s Facebook page as these events are locked in.”
A $5 million makeover of Brelsford Park last year has seen the green space beautified with the addition of concrete pathways, statement trees and vegetation plantings, enhanced lighting, two amphitheatre performance spaces and a signature gateway entrance.
“The Coffs Harbour Carols was the first major event to be hosted at the new Brelsford and the community feedback has been positive,” City Planning and Communities Acting Director Ian Fitzgibbon said.
“The latest enhancements build on the popularity of the skate park and the playground – presenting a premier all-ages' recreational precinct.”
Australia Day activities will include ‘The Big Dig’ - a treasure hunt at Jetty Beach being run by David Bourke from Community Oosh Services.
This will take place on the southern end of the sand strip toward Jetty Beach House, and will run from 1.30pm to 3pm.
More formal proceedings on the day will see a citizenship ceremony and the announcement of the City’s Australia Day Award winners at C.ex Coffs in Vernon Street.
“Hopefully the weather will be kind for a great day out for the community, with a mix of outdoor and under cover activities,” Mayor Williams said.
The Brelsford Park Enhancement Project was funded by the Australian and NSW Governments through the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund, along with support from the City of Coffs Harbour.
