Moving on up City of Coffs Harbour will trump rock lords AC/DC with a dirty seeds done dirt cheap-themed event.
The Spring Family Fun Day on 7 September will herald the change of season and showcase a raft of free activities at Yarrila Place.
An event highlight will be the launch of a seed library at Harry Bailey Memorial Library.
“You’ll be able to ‘borrow’ seed packets – flowers, vegetables, fruit and herbs – and plant them at home,” City of Coffs Harbour City Planning and Communities Director Chris Chapman said.
“And it’s a case of what goes around, comes around, as people will be able to gather and donate seeds back to the library. This exciting new initiative will roll out across our three libraries, including Toormina and Woolgoolga.”
The Spring Family Fun Day will be a chocolate chest of delights and discovery for all ages.
“There will be a potting workshop under the big fig tree outside Yarrila while inside people can enjoy face-painting, live music, Lego, Duplo, light box kits and sensory play equipment,” Mr Chapman said.
The high-tech digital studio will be open to explore as will be the Make Space.
There will also be a guided tour of the library which sprawls over three levels, including the Gen Alpha library for teenagers which packs e-gaming and PlayStation.
“We are coming up to a year since Yarrila Place opened so we’ll be highlighting some of the innovative projects created in the space,” Mr Chapman said.
“Tens of thousands have been through the doors and we’d encourage anyone who hasn’t been to Yarrila Place to head along to the Spring Family Fun Day to see why it’s won hearts and minds.
“Come and explore, come and have a go at making something.”
There will be heaps of giveaways at the event, including YAM (Yarrila Arts and Museum) artmaking bags.
The 3D printer will be in action, and the young at heart can have fun with glow-in-the-dark stickers.
The Spring Family Fun Day will run from 10am to 2pm, and people will be able to also catch three stunning new exhibitions - Modern Guru and the Path to Artificial Happiness, Electric Dreams and Serendipia - which play with light.
This is the first time the internationally acclaimed Modern Guru has been presented in Australia.
Entry to the exhibitions – which will be at YAM through to November 10 – is free.
