The route between Woolgoolga Beach Reserve to the Solitary Islands Coastal Walk is already a popular walk for locals and visitors.
Upgrading the walkway will offer safety and accessibility for all users, as well as enhanced seating and lookouts.

Project scope

Works are programmed to start on site on the 18 March 2024 and anticipated to be completed in June 2024 (weather permitting).
Construction hours 7am-5pm weekdays. Site preparation works may be undertaken before then with minimal impacts.

The final designs have taken into consideration community feedback received, as well as environmental factors, cultural heritage assessments, accessibility, safety, engineering and construction standards. The NSW Grant requirement that the pathway connects Woolgoolga Beach Reserve with the Solitary Islands Coastal Walk.

Final design includes, view the concept plan

  • New 1.8 metre wide pathway including boardwalk to connect reserve to the existing headland path
  • Existing parking area is formalised with inclusion for disability parking
  • Road widening along Carrington Street and Pollack Esplanade
  • Improved safety on curb corner of Carrington and Pollack Street
  • Additional seating
  • Look out to enjoy ocean views towards Woolgoogla Main Beach
  • Existing lookout retained
  • Existing open lawns are retained
  • Impacts on remnant fragile vegetation to be minimised

To allow us to complete the work efficiently and safely, partial road closures will be needed at certain points throughout construction as well as revised traffic conditions. Onsite signage will be in place to direct pedestrian and vehicles throughout the duration of works.

Funding

The project is funded by a $1.1 million Community Development Grant, through the NSW State Government Commonwealth Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications.

This is a key deliverable from the Woolgoolga Beach Reserve Masterplan 2018, with remaining upgrades to be delivered in future as funding becomes available
